The Price of Tomorrow

Why Deflation is the Key to an Abundant Future

by Jeff Booth

5/5
Stanley Press 224 pages January 14, 2020

Technology is deflationary. We are heading for an economy where prices fall forever. But our entire economic system — central banks, debt-driven growth, the dollar reserve standard — depends on inflation. Booth argues this contradiction is heading for a violent reset, and that Bitcoin is the soft landing.

Jim's Review

🐛
Booth is a successful Canadian entrepreneur, not an economist or a bitcoiner. He came to Bitcoin sideways, after realizing that technology makes things cheaper exponentially while the monetary system requires constant inflation to function. The two trends cannot coexist forever, and his thesis is that Bitcoin is the ledger humanity needs as the old system breaks. This is a short, urgent book — under 250 pages — that doubles as the best non-technical case for Bitcoin Jim has read. The chapters on AI, automation, and debt are worth the price alone, even if you reject the Bitcoin conclusion. Five worms.
