Remarkably Bright Creatures
by Shelby Van Pelt
Tova Sullivan, a widow in her seventies, works the night shift cleaning the Sowell Bay Aquarium in Washington State, still grieving the son who vanished at sea thirty years ago. Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus with a low opinion of humans, notices far more than anyone realizes. When a drifter named Cameron arrives in town looking for his father, the octopus starts connecting the pieces.

Jim's Review
Any book with a grumpy octopus narrator who has opinions about humanity has Jim's full attention. Marcellus's chapters are the highlight — dry, funny and surprisingly moving — and Tova is a wonderfully stubborn heroine. The central mystery is easy to guess early, but the book cares more about grief, loneliness and second chances than about surprises. Four worms — cozy, warm and just a little salty.
