After their father's death, two Irish brothers drift through grief in very different ways: Peter, a successful Dublin barrister in his thirties torn between two women, and Ivan, a socially awkward twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player who falls for an older woman.

Jim's Review
🐛
Rooney's most ambitious book so far, and her warmest. Peter's chapters are written in a clipped, fractured style that mirrors his unraveling, while Ivan's are slower and more open, and the contrast makes the brothers' prickly bond the real love story. Readers who found her earlier books chilly may be surprised. The stylistic experiments can feel effortful in places. Four worms — a big, humane novel about grief and brotherhood.
