When fourteen-year-old Marjorie Barrett begins showing signs of what her family believes is demonic possession, her desperate father invites a reality TV crew to film an exorcism. Years later, her younger sister Merry recounts what really happened. A razor-sharp deconstruction of possession narratives and media exploitation.

Jim's Review

🐛
Tremblay is the master of "wait, what actually happened?" and this book is his masterclass. Jim spent the entire final third with his jaw on the floor — well, worms don't have jaws, but you get the idea. The meta-commentary on reality TV and horror tropes is wickedly smart, and the unreliable narration keeps you second-guessing everything. Is it possession? Mental illness? A hoax? The answer might be all three, and that's what makes it brilliant.
